Picking a floor color is harder than it looks. You're standing in front of a dozen planks that all look nice on their own, and you have to imagine how one of them will look under your cabinets, next to your paint and in your light for years to come. We help people with that decision every day at our warehouse in Gadsden, so here's a plain-talk look at the flooring colors and design looks people are choosing right now, and how to make one work in your home.

Warm Light Oak Is Leading the Way

For a long time, cool gray was the default in new builds and remodels. Lately the look has warmed up. Folks want floors that feel natural and inviting, with soft wood grain and a light, sandy tone that brightens a room without looking washed out.

That's exactly the look in the photo at the top of this post: our Almond SPC running through a freshly renovated kitchen with white shaker cabinets, a gray granite island and a gold faucet. Almond is one of the shop's best-selling colors, and it's easy to see why. It works with white, cream and greige walls, it pairs with both cool and warm countertops, and it makes an open floor plan feel bigger.

  • Almond SPC, 5.5mm: 22 mil wear layer, 1.5mm attached pad, $1.85/sq ft, or $1.75/sq ft by the full pallet
  • Almond SPC, 8mm: 30 mil wear layer, 1.5mm attached pad, $2.50/sq ft

Nature Oak is another natural light oak that fits this look. It comes in a 5mm version with a 20 mil wear layer and 1mm pad for $1.50/sq ft, or a 5.5mm SPC version with a 22 mil wear layer and 1.5mm pad for $1.85/sq ft, or $1.75/sq ft by the full pallet.

Golden and Honey Tones Are Back

Warm golden oak is having a moment again, but cleaner and less orange than the floors of the 1990s. These tones look great with black or brass hardware, wood accents and earthy paint colors like sage, olive and clay.

Cabana Gold SPC is our warm golden oak, at $1.85/sq ft, or $1.75/sq ft by the full pallet. If you want to go thicker, Cabana Gold is also part of our Premium SPC Collection: 8mm, 30 mil wear layer, 1.5mm attached pad, $2.50/sq ft, along with Staple Maple, Almond, Treacy Sugar and Mountain Oak.

Gray Isn't Gone, It's Just Softer

Gray floors still look sharp, especially with white cabinets, white trim and black fixtures. The difference now is that people are picking grays with more wood character and a little warmth, instead of flat, cold tones.

Award Winner is the name of our gray color. It's a 5.5mm plank with a 22 mil wear layer and a 1.5mm attached pad. Call for today's price. It's a great fit for modern farmhouse kitchens and clean, simple living rooms.

Mid-Tone Browns for a Classic Look

If light floors feel too bright for your space, a mid-tone brown gives you a timeless wood look that hides everyday dust and dirt well. It suits older homes, cabins, dens and bedrooms where you want a cozy feel.

  • Antique Oak SPC, 5.5mm: 22 mil wear layer, 1.5mm attached pad, $1.85/sq ft, or $1.75/sq ft by the full pallet
  • Color Bear SPC, 5.5mm: 22 mil wear layer, 1.5mm attached pad, $1.85/sq ft, or $1.75/sq ft by the full pallet
  • Fauna SPC, 5mm: 20 mil wear layer, 1mm attached pad, $1.50/sq ft, a realistic wood look that's pet friendly

One Floor Through the Whole House

One of the biggest design shifts we see is the move to one continuous floor. Instead of carpet in the bedrooms, tile in the kitchen and wood in the living room, people are running one plank from the front door all the way to the back. It makes a home feel bigger, cleaner and more finished, and there are fewer transition strips to trip over.

That's easy to do with our floors because all Bryson Co flooring is waterproof. The same plank can go in the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room, mudroom and living areas. Spills, pet accidents and wet shoes just wipe up.

If you want a stone look in a bathroom or shower, we also carry 12x24 matte porcelain tile for $1.10/sq ft and genuine 1st Choice Bianco Polished 12x24 marble tile for $6/sq ft for that bright, spa-like finish on floors and walls.

How to Pick the Right Color for Your Home

A few simple tips we share with customers:

  • Look at samples in your own light. A plank can look very different under warehouse lights than in a sunny kitchen or a dim hallway.
  • Match the undertone, not the exact color. Warm floors like Almond and Cabana Gold pair with cream, beige and greige. Gray floors like Award Winner pair with crisp white and cool grays.
  • Think about cabinets and trim first. These are harder to change than paint, so pick a floor that looks good next to them.
  • Go lighter in small rooms. Light oaks make small rooms and hallways feel more open.
  • Think about daily life. Mid-tone floors with visible grain hide dust, pet hair and footprints better than very light or very dark floors.

Style and Durability Don't Have to Compete

A good-looking floor still has to hold up. Every plank above has a clear wear layer from 20 to 30 mil protecting the color and grain from scratches and scuffs, and an attached pad, so there's no separate underlayment to buy. Our SPC and LVP click together and float over the subfloor, so a remodel goes down fast.
